LIFE IS A BALANCING ACT!

The committments of life make it hard to balance what we need and what we want for ourselves.

Cultivate Self-love

Yoga Sutra I.33 advises us to cultivate love for those who are happy, compassion for those who are suffering, joy for those who are virtuous, and equanimity for those who make mistakes. Patanjali's advice also applies to how we relate to ourselves. Cultivate self-compassion by including this reflection in your yoga practice.

LOVE:
Acknowledge that you deserve health and happiness, and that you are worth the effort it takes to make a positive change.

JOY:
Give yourself credit for, and celebrate, any positive actions you have taken to support yourself. Also have gratitude for any support you have received from your family and friends.

EQUANIMITY:
If you are feeling bad about a recent setback, remind yourself that mistakes are only human, and they are an important part of the path of change. Instead of berating yourself, focus on your larger goal to be happy, healthy and free from suffering.

Finding Your Yoga

As the popularity of yoga continues to increase, finding one's way through the miles of yoga information can be confusing. Is Yoga about fitness? Performing challenging yoga poses? Following the teachings of a particular "style"? Is it relaxation and stretching? Is yoga the development of the body through regular physical practie, or is it about self-awareness, meditaion, philosphy or a lifestyle?
The answer to all the above is simple. YES. The key is finding your own yoga.
Different people may be drawnj to different aspects of yoga, such as physical fitness, fun, increasing performance, mental focus in sport, recovery from illness or injury, relief from physical or emotional pain or stress, philosophy, meditation or as part of an ethical approach to living a peaceful, balanced life.
Yoga has many benefits. We each get to decide what aspect of yoga we feel will be beneficial for us to focus on,and we can move on to another aspect if and when we are ready. Our yoga practice can begin simply with a sincere willingness to learn.
